2021 marks Naomi Uemura's 80th birthday, and a contemporary reinterpretation of this much-admired watch celebrates the memory of the adventurer and his achievements. While this commemorative watch echoes the design of the model from 1970, it also incorporates some very modern technology. The patterned dial echoes the rugged terrain that Uemura loved so dearly, while the blue tones of the dial and bezel are inspired by the upper layers of the atmosphere that only explorers of his stature were lucky enough to witness. The case, protected by an anti-scratch coating, features a curved sapphire glass crystal with an anti-reflective inner layer for perfect readability from all angles. This timepiece features the 8L35 calibre, designed specifically for diving watches by the master watchmakers at the Shizukuishi Watchmaking Studio in northern Japan. Limited to 1,200 pieces worldwide.
