OUR WATCHMAKING SINCE 1881

IN SEARCH OF PERFECTION

The story of SEIKO dates back to 1881 when a 22-year-old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened his clock repair shop in Tokyo. He was determined to become a pioneer in the watch industry and made it a point of honour that "SEIKO should always be one step ahead of the others". Eleven years later, in 1892, he founded the "Seikosha" factory and produced his first clock and, in 1895, his first watch. SEIKO has never ceded its position as a leader in technological innovation, the true secret to its success.

Building on this expertise, SEIKO has been able to create synergies between different technologies resulting in major innovations. SEIKO is currently a genuine "manufacturing company" producing its own components, from integrated circuit to spiral spring, and it is the only company mastering four watchmaking technologies: mechanical, quartz, Kinetic and Spring Drive. After 140 years of innovation, the watch manufacturer remains faithful to the pledge of its founder: the quest for perfection.

THE STRENGTH OF SYNERGY

Synergy underpins SEIKO's commitment to excellence. 56 years after producing its first mechanical wristwatch, SEIKO invented the quartz watch. The combination of tradition and electronics opens up new horizons. The quartz era had barely begun when engineers were already dreaming of the next step: the Kinetic watch. 19 years later, this dream has come true.KINETIC is the first watch in the world to produce its own electricity. A rotor activated by the movement of the wrist powers the quartz movement. The innovative minds at SEIKO then started to think about making another dream come true: a spring watch with the highest level of precision. Quartz gave birth to Kinetic, and it led to the creation of Spring Drive.

Today, SEIKO is embarking on new watchmaking adventures and will continue to rely on the synergy of the four main technologies for future breakthroughs.
